The fact that Ozzy is still alive is in itself quite miraculous (and somehow really comforting), but he isn’t just still here. He is still making music. I often think about how difficult it is for artists who have been around for decades to recapture that magic of their early days. Not only they get older, their audience does too. If I don’t feel the same deep excitement listening to new music from old heroes than when I was a teenager, it may actually say more about me than about their current output. After its release I started liking Ozzy’s new album “Patient Number 9” a little more with each listen. It’s filled with amazing riffs and memorable hooks and with its many guest appearances it is multifaceted while firmly sounding like Ozzy. His unmistakable and unique voice thrones over the contributions of legends such as Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, Mike McCready or Zakk Wylde (to name just some of them) and holds everything together. I’m impressed. And I hope we will be graced with Uncle Ozzy’s presence for much longer.
