Metallica - The Black Album
There is no metalhead in the world who doesn’t have an opinion on Metallica’s “Black Album”. To some it was the beginning of Metallica’s decline after an incredible run of monster albums in the 80’s. To others it was the last great record of theirs. And to many, it was their introduction to metal altogether. Wherever you stand, what can’t be questioned is its immense impact. It turned Metallica from underground heroes to global superstars. They went from playing arenas to stadiums and never looked back. I’m somewhere in the middle. I don’t think it rivals the brilliance of the first four Metallica albums, but I also think there are some amazing songs on there even though some of them may have been a tad overplayed. If Wayne’s World was done today, there would be a “No Enter Sandman” sign at the guitar shop, but that doesn’t take away from the quality of not just this song. My favorite is “Wherever I May Roam”.
