Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood
Motley Crue are about as (in)famous for their debauchery as they are for their music (well documented in their hugely entertaining biography “The Dirt” which you should read right now if you haven’t yet). The fact that they returned from the “Girls, Girls, Girls” tour alive (and still are alive today) is pretty much a medical miracle. But even these maniacs realized that it was time for a change at some point. “Dr. Feelgood” was the first album that they recorded sober. They hired perfectionist Bob Rock to produce and what seemed like a collaboration that couldn’t possibly work resulted in their most successful (and in my opinion second best) album. Rock made them sound bigger than ever (duly noted by Lars Ulrich) and the album spawned some of their biggest hits, staples of their live shows to this day. A glorious conclusion to a decade that they helped shape for better or worse (better if you ask me). (Yes, I realize that was a lot of side notes in parentheses.)
