The first associations that come to most people’s minds when thinking of Italy are the nice things in life. Delicious food, fine wine, astounding architecture, breathtaking landscapes, beautiful cars. La dolce vita. But just like pretty much every European country, they also have some great metal to offer. Bedsore might have chosen an unfortunate name for their band (I must say it has gotten pretty difficult to find a good death metal band name that hasn’t been taken yet), but their debut album “Hypnagogic Hallucinations” is excellent. It’s death metal at the core but by injecting psychedelic and melodic elements they create an atmosphere that is truly unique. It’s loaded with ideas, carefully constructed to monumental compositions that deserve close attention so that they can unfold their magic. A very promising debut that makes me hopeful that we will hear even greater things from them in the future.
