Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Ian Curtis’ life and untimely death was as tragic as the sound of Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures” suggests. He hung himself when he was only 23 on the eve of what would have been their first North American tour. “Unknown Pleasures” is not for the faint of heart. It is utterly bleak, brutally honest, an at times terrifyingly depressive journey into a troubled mind and soul. And that is exactly why it resonated so well then and it still resonates to this day. Despite only releasing two albums Joy Division’s influence was immense and it leaves you wondering if knowing that his art would still touch people so deeply over 40 years later would have provided any comfort to Ian Curtis.
