Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Elton John and his long-time friend and songwriting partner Bernie Taupin have written so many incredible songs in their career now spanning over 50 years that it’s near impossible to pick one of their albums as their greatest. But if we had to the top contender would probably be “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Elton was at the height of his creative powers at the time, churning out hit songs one after the other. A double album boasting 17 songs, it shows the amazing versatility of his songwriting. Pop, rock, reggae, soul, country, R&B - all styles that make an appearance and that melt together into a surprisingly coherent album. There are tracks like “Bennie and the Jets”, “Candle In The Wind” or “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” that have become immortal staples of classic rock playlists and Elton’s live set, but the deeper cuts have just as much quality and are just as essential to the experience.
