Soundgarden - Superunknown
If you ask me, Chris Cornell was one of the greatest singers of rock history. A once in a generation voice. He was forceful, ha had an amazing range and he had an unmistakable tone. Soundgarden were already a pretty big band before “Superunknown” was released, but with this one they reached superstardom. They polished their signature sound just enough to break into the mainstream in a big way without compromising quality. Across 16 sprawling tracks they showcase the whole palette of their musical abilities. There are big riffs, odd time signatures, somber moments, psychedelic elements, undeniable hooks. And of course, over everything towers Cornell’s voice. Even though they were part of the Grunge movement (which surely helped them commercially), they were first and foremost a fantastic rock band.
