Doug Lucas was a creative soul who didn’t know any boundaries. He was a jazz-funk pioneer associated with groups like JJ Band, Plus, Chakachas or Mombasa. In 1975, he released his first solo album “Niara”. It was recorded in Belgium where he was an integral part of a thriving scene for many years, and it became highly sought after and hard to find over the years. The musicianship and production is astounding. He may have not become a big name in the mainstream, but he was critically acclaimed and re-discovered over and over again. Many notable artists such as Busta Rhymes, Aceyalone or Nas sampled his music. A rare gem from an era that many call especially creative and fearless.
