Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Absolutely everything about Meat Loaf’s “Bat Out of Hell” is over the top. And that’s exactly why it’s so great. It’s a musical disguised as a rock album. Jim Steinman (who wrote the songs) and Meat Loaf were a match made in heaven. Unsurprisingly, they met on the stage musical circuit where Meat Loaf had started to make a name for himself, most notably for his performance in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. Steinman wrote his first musical while still in college (melodic traces of said musical can be found in a later Steinman hit you might have heard of - “Total Eclipse Of The Heart”). Todd Rundgren joined the two as producer, but it took them a long time to find a label. Most executives who heard the album thought it was absolutely ridiculous, but once it finally was released, people loved it, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. This is the product of artists who truly believed in their vision and refused to compromise. It’s an absolutely unique and unapologetically bombastic explosion of creativity, energy and passion.
