To many who lived through it and even to some that didn’t, “Pretty in Pink” is one of the quintessential 80’s movies. And its soundtrack is almost as legendary as the movie itself. Good soundtracks capture the vibe of a movie, great soundtracks capture the vibe of a whole era. INXS, Psychedelic Furs, The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order. All those bands exemplify the cutting edge of 80’s cool. Director John Hughes curated this and other soundtracks to his iconic movies of the time himself and he pieced it together like a carefully thought through mixtape. Only that he shared his with the world. We live in a world full of playlists designed for specific moods, eras, styles and so on, but rarely has anybody compiled such a cohesive collection of songs that share a similar vibe while still reflecting each artist’s strengths and personalities.
