Skid Row - Skid Row
Iíll never forget the first time I heard Skid Row. The song was ďYouth Gone WildĒ - their declaration of intent, their anthem. It starts with one of the all-time greatest rock riffs, one of those you can sing along to. Then comes Sebastian, the perfect rock singer. He sounded intense, aggressive, full of energy yet always melodic. Naturally, I had to get the whole album, their self-titled debut. And I wasnít disappointed. Guns Ní Roses had paved the way for rock to be dirty and dangerous again while other bands brought glitter and make-up to unprecedented extremes. Perfect timing for Skid Row. They were heavy enough for the rockers and sprinkled in such undeniably catchy and beautiful ballads that they could break into the mainstream. Sebastianís looks didnít hurt. This album was one of the last hurrahs of sleazy rock before the guys from Seattle took over. And itís still so much fun.
