Roy Orbison - Mystery Girl

Roy Orbison - Mystery Girl

The circumstances surrounding the release of Roy Orbison’s masterpiece “Mystery Girl” were tragic. A superstar in the 1960’s but largely forgotten during much of the following two decades, Orbison was in the middle of an improbable comeback. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, David Lynch raised his coolness factor by using his music in his legendary movie “Blue Velvet” and as part of the Traveling Wilburys (alongside Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty) he was back in the charts. But in December of 1988, he suddenly passed away, shortly after finishing the work on “Mystery Girl” but before its release. It became his final triumph. Aided by a stunning list of collaborators, he graced the world one last time with his exceptional song craft and unmistakable voice. What was supposed to mark his big comeback as solo artist became his epitaph but what an incredible one it was, cementing his legendary status even further.
