Wipers - Is This Real?
It was the dawn of the 80’s when Wipers released their debut album “Is This Real?”. They became cult heroes in the Northwest, but were widely ignored elsewhere. Initially. Ten years later, grunge was all the rage and many of its heroes cited Wipers as one of their major influences - most notably Kurt Cobain. Many of the qualities that made Nirvana and their peers famous can be heard on this album. It combined youthful punk energy and a harsh, distinct guitar tone with a gloomy atmosphere and vocal melodies so catchy they could have worked on a power pop record. A groundbreaking album that rightfully became a punk cult classic even though it took a little while to gain the status it deserved.
