Alynda Segarra who records as Hurray for the Riff Raff has chosen New Orleans as their home after growing up in the Bronx and traveling through the country hopping freight trains. A romantic at heart. Their new album Life On Earth is quite far removed from the projects folksy beginnings, but Alyndas voice is still the star of the show whether they sing on top of synth, pianos or acoustic guitars (which are still there as well). Its as close as theyve ever gotten to a contemporary pop record without losing their edge, whether theyre documenting the inhumane border violence or personal traumas.
