After the tremendous success of their debut album “Licensed to Ill” - the first rap album to ever top the Billboard charts - the Beastie Boys decided to take a sharp turn with their sophomore effort “Paul’s Boutique”. What first seemed like a flop is now regarded as a landmark album. They teamed up with the Dust Brothers and jam-packed the record with an amount of samples nobody thought was possible at the time. It may have initially disappointed some people that were hoping for another frat rap party album, but it earned them the respect of critics as well as peers and paved the way for their further career.
