Dry Cleaning - New Long Leg
When Florence Shaw joined Dry Cleaning as their frontwoman she did so only under the condition that she wouldn’t have to sing. She opted to just talk instead. This fact alone gives their debut album “New Long Leg” a very unique sound. Not only does Florence just talk, she does it in an almost absent and disinterested sounding tone. The band provides the backdrop to her words with a sound that harks back to early post-punk. That combination gives their music a hypnotic feel and allows you to dive into Shaw’s observations of today’s life, often expressed in brilliant one-liners that seem absurd and meaningful at the same time.
