Exhorder’s masterpiece “Slaughter In The Vatican” is a celebration of the almighty riff, right in the sweet spot between the speed worship of 80’s thrash and the groove-orientation that came to define a lot of 90’s metal. The sound is bone-dry, razor-sharp and ultra-aggressive - speak: perfect for their style. There were a lot of issues surrounding the release of this album making you wonder if Exhorder could have exploded commercially like Pantera did with the proper support. It would have been deserved. Even though that didn’t happen, this album rightfully became a cult classic, inspiring many bands that pushed thrash metal into the new century.
