Record of the Day - 03/18/2022
As the 80’s gave way to the 90’s what at some point was dubbed alternative rock rose from the underground into the mainstream. Bands like Faith No More, Primus or Red Hot Chili Peppers started infusing their rock sound with all kinds of musical styles, creating something fresh and exciting, each of them in a unique way. Right there at the forefront along with them were Jane’s Addiction. Their second studio album “Ritual De Lo Habitual” - our Record of the Day - became their crowning achievement. The first side of the album is a series of fist-pumping, straight-up fun rock songs while on the second half things get a bit weirder, more alternative you might say, but no less captivating. It was a band being pulled apart by a haze of drugs, egos and differing visions somehow just barely keeping it together to create an ode to hedonism and artistic freedom that would influence countless other bands.
