Record of the Day - 02/13/2022
Tonight’s Super Bowl halftime show will be a celebration of 90’s hip hop - the decade in which the genre started its dominance of the pop charts. An end is still not in sight. Dr. Dre is one of the instrumental figures in its history. He rose to fame with N.W.A., the group that revolutionized hip hop with a far more aggressive sound and lyrical content than what was common at the time. After producing several hit albums for different artists and leaving N.W.A., his career was at a crossroad. He responded by producing his first album released under his own name: “The Chronic” - our Record of the Day and one of the most influential hip hop albums of all time. Gangsta Rap became mainstream. And it introduced Snoop Dogg to the world. Dre is a wizard at the mixing desk, a sound architect, a visionary who changed the music world.
