Record of the Day - 02/10/2022
Many of us have learned a bit about isolation in the recent pandemic-dominated years. Shame’s latest album “Drunk Tank Pink” - our Record of the Day - is an album born of isolation of a different kind. After the extensive touring on the heels of their debut, the band’s frontman Charlie Steen sequestered himself in a cupboard - painted in the title giving color, hoping for its supposedly soothing qualities. Judging by the resulting album it only halfway worked. Which is good news for us listeners. There is still that restlessness and rage of their debut, but they have grown as songwriters, venturing out into new musical territories while always keeping a foot in the post-punk sound they started out with. This is somehow fun and sad at the same time.
