Dr. John And His New Orleans Congregation

Before Mac Rebennack gained fame as Dr. John he already had quite an extensive history as a recording artist. He was a musical prodigy, starring in church musicals at an early age and then became involved with many New Orleans musicians, some of them legends such as Fats Domino or Huey Smith. “Dr. John and his New Orleans Congregation” - our Record of the Day - is a wonderful collection of early recordings in which he was featured in many different roles - as arranger, guitarist, pianist, or featured vocalist. It breathes the spirit of early rock n’ roll, the youth culture that would change the world and this album shows what an outstanding musician he already was very early on.
