Record of the Day - 01/30/2022
Supergroups sound great in theory. A bunch of famous musicians join forces to make music together. In reality, the outcome is often disappointing. That wasn’t the case when outlaw country heroes Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson got together and released “Highwayman” - our Record of the Day. Maybe it worked so well, because this wasn’t an idea of some record company executive. The four had been friends and admirers of each other’s work for a long time. The idea was born in Montreaux, Switzerland when Johnny Cash brought the four together for his Christmas special and they started jamming together. As individualistic all these guys were, their voices and singing styles blended perfectly and they created an album that has become an all-time classic of country music.
