Record of the Day - 07/22/2022
Working Men’s Club’s “Fear Fear” - our Record of the Day - starts with gloomy electronic beats that evoke strobe-lit dancefloors at a dark rave. It sets the tone for this record perfectly. There’s nods to the old heroes of mixing electronica with pop and rock such as New Order or Depeche Mode. Synth-pop bordering to post-punk - hooky, melancholic, cold, dreary, at times anthemic. After their critically acclaimed debut, they had a lot of eyes on them and they returned with a meticulously crafted, highly eclectic album. Yes, their core sound is definitely rooted in the 80’s, but Working Men’s Club update it for a new generation and make it modern and vibrant.
