On her new album, Sunset Drive, Denitia shares her story of going after something new — a life back in Nashville, where she attended college, immersed in both the city’s roots music scene and the community of the artist collective Black Opry — while experiencing the menagerie of emotions that come with leaving behind what you knew and starting over. Across the album, she draws from the country and alternative rock music she listened to growing up outside of Houston; the songs of artists such as the Eagles, Vince Gill, Waylon Jennings, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, and Neil Young, ever present in her life; and the decade she spent entrenched in Brooklyn’s indie music scene. She has toured extensively with the Black Opry Revue; been invited to perform at the National Museum of African American Music and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville; and shared stages with Jason Isbell, Amythyst Kiah, Joy Oladokun, and Allison Russell, among other artists. In 2023, Denitia earned one of five spots in a residency hosted by the Black Opry and WXPN, was named to Rissi Palmer’s Color Me Country class, and was one of three artists selected for CMT and mtheory’s Equal Access cohort. And the momentum has continued in 2024: Denitia is one of CMT’s 2024 Next Women of Country; was named an artist to watch by the Nashville Scene in January; is making her Grand Ole Opry debut in late June; and will open shows for Mickey Guyton in the fall.

Mj Lenderman is a songwriter born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. The anatomy of an MJ record might go something like this: warped pedal steels and skuzzed out guitar; crackin' a cold one with some buds; a voice reminiscent of the high-lonesome warble of a choirboy. Songs snake their way from a lo-fi home recording to something glossier made with longtime friends at Asheville's Drop of Sun studios, but the recording setting doesn't seem to matter much - at it's core, a Lenderman song rings true.Manning Fireworks is a remarkable development in Mj Lenderman's story as an incredibly incisive singer-songwriter, whose propensity for humor always points to some uneasy, disorienting darkness. The punchlines are still here, as are the rusted-wire guitar solos that have made Lenderman a favorite for indie rock fans looking for an emerging guitar hero. There's a new sincerity, too, as Lenderman let's listeners clearly see the world through his warped lens.

LSD is a collaborative supergroup comprising Sia, Diplo and Labrinth. The brand-new album by David Gilmour, ‘Luck and Strange’ was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman, with lyrics mostly written by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer for the past thirty years.

 

The album features eight new tracks along with a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ ‘Between Two Points’, which sees Romany Gilmour, who performs backing vocals across the album, on vocals and harp.

 

Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt & Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry & Roger Eno on keyboards and the string and choral arrangements are by Will Gardner. The title track also features the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright, recorded in 2007 during a ‘Barn Jam’ at David’s house.

Indie Exclusive - Coalmine Records digs into their storied discography to unveil their ten-year anniversary reissue of Highway Robbery, the collaborative concept album from Detroit’s heavyweight emcee Guilty Simpson and Philly beat smith Small Professor. Weighing in at 11 tracks, the project places the listener in a seemingly post-apocalyptic Detroit where the mentality is feast or famine. Highway Robbery plays as one long narrative of Guilty’s day-to-day survival in Detroit’s concrete jungle, all set to the tone of Small Professor’s foreboding, percussion heavy production. Featuring guest appearances from Detroit’s Boldy James, A.G. (of D.I.T.C.), Elucid and Castle, the album is further highlighted with the meticulous turntablism of both Statik Selektah and DJ Revolution. This reissue also boasts the Zilla Rocca remix of “Go” which features Audible Doctor on the cuts. A decade removed from its original release, Highway Robbery remains a gratifying listen and strong addition to anyone’s hiphop record collection with its high-level lyricism, avant-garde production value and overall creativity.

Indie Exclusive - From 2006-2010 Shane Bunting aka Madchild was on a kamikaze run with the drug oxycontin that pushed him to the brink of oblivion. Hitting rock bottom, his addiction spiraled out of control and destroyed everything the successful emcee had worked so hard to build with is platinum selling hip-hop group Swollen Members. The fancy cars, lavish houses and rock star luxuries were all gone, as his addiction had consumed over 3 million dollars worth of assets and finances in just over four years. Clean from drugs for the first time in his adult life, Madchild removed himself from temptation by walking away from his previous social life and bunkered down in his home studio secluded from the outside world. For the next 10 months, Madchild feverishly wrote and recorded his first ever solo album, 2012's Dope Sick.

Live At the Opera House is the first-ever full release of Sylvester’s iconic 1979 concert at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House, previously available only as heavily edited excerpts. Star Trek Into Darkness is the sequel to J. J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot of the iconic franchise, and follows Captain James T. Kirk, and the crew of USS Enterprise as they are sent to the Klingon home world seeking a former Starfleet member-turned-terrorist, John Harrison. This first-ever vinyl release of the Deluxe Edition of Michael Giacchino’s score for the film features 51 tracks, which come in a 3-LP boxed set packaged in a die-cut slipcase.

Indie Exclusive - Include 4 bonus tracks - Formed from the remnants of Californian pop group 'The Young Swingers,' 1965 marked a pivotal moment for the members of the psychedelic folk-rock group 'Ashes.' Originating in Santa Monica, the original lineup of Alan Brackett, Jim Cherniss, Spencer Dryden, John Merrill, and Barbara Robinson began playing local clubs and released two now-obscure singles in 1965. By 1966, they adopted the name 'Ashes' and underwent personnel changes, with Cherniss departing and Dryden leaving to join Jefferson Airplane. Brackett and Merrill subsequently formed The Peanut Butter Conspiracy but reformed 'Ashes' in 1968 with new singer Pat Taylor and drummer John Voight. Recorded in 1968 and produced by Jackie Mills, the self-titled "Ashes" is a dreamy, acid folk-rock piece that was initially shelved but released by Vault Records in 1971. Now reissued on blue vinyl with extra recordings, this album is an excellent slice of mid-1960s Southern California lite-rock.

Indie Exclusive - Tripsichord’s self-titled album, originally released on the Janus label in 1970, is a quintessential piece of late 1960s and early 1970s psychedelic rock. The band, originally known as Tripsichord Music Box before shortening their name, was part of the burgeoning San Francisco music movement. The record is characterized by swirling guitar riffs, intricate melodies, rich vocal harmonies, and a mystic sound that encompassed both guitar-driven psych rock and reflective, melodic folk. Composed by John Williams, the score for Raiders of the Lost Ark was the only score in the series performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, the same orchestra that performed the scores for the Star Wars saga. The score is most notable for it's inclusion of the iconic and now ubiquitous 'Raiders March,' which came to symbolize Indiana Jones and was later used in the scores for all subsequent films. Raiders of the Lost Ark received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score in 1981.
